To promote sound Christianity by propagating and teaching the pure and uncompromised gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to all men.
Expectedly, the fellowship Centre in the home of the Babalolas’ metamorphosed into a full-fledged branch, making it the first in The Fountain of Life Church in Lagos. The branch then known as The Fountain of Life Church, Ijesha Branch, commenced service on Sunday, April 30, 1995 at Duro Oyedoyin street, Ijeshatedo. With a great deal of work put into the service of God by the pastorate and members, the church moved to a bigger and more spacious facility at 12/14 Obalodu Street, Ijeshatedo years after.
The movement of the church to Obalodu was a great testimony of God’s leading, favour and divine intervention as the place was rented at a price far below what other interested parties, including churches, offered.
At the Obalodu site, TCOLC grew and expanded from being a youth-filled assembly to attracting many adults and this shot the membership of the church to over 1,000, thus making the leadership of the branch commence running two services every Sunday to accommodate its teeming membership. In the early part of year 2,000, there was a change in the policy of The Fountain of Life Church, and this led to the release of all branches by the parent church. This divine act led to a change of name of the Ijesha branch to The City of Light Church (TCOLC).
The name THE CITY OF LIGHT CHURCH was derived from Matthew 5:14 ‘Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid’after God laid it in the heart of our Head Pastor, Bayo Babalola, upon release by The Fountain of Life Church.
In 2019, God instructed our Head Pastor to arise and build a new church facility in the heart of Surulere. Even though there was no physical evidence of where the financial resources would come from, this divine instruction was received in faith and in the month of March 2022, we moved into our ultra-modern multi-million-naira edifice sitting on a large expanse of land not too far from the Obalodu site. The beautiful architectural delight designed in the shape of a talking drum; is a conspicuous testament to the power of what God can achieve when his instructions are followed to the letter.
The all-glass, multilevel-storey building sits elegantly in the heart of Aguda, a true definition of a city set on a hill which cannot be hidden.
